IN THE BEGINNING (Read to Rachmaninof’s Prelude in C# Mn, Op 3, #2)

In the time before Time,

In the blackness of eternity

when all was formless

and light was a thing that did not exist;

A Being existed.

In the time before Time,

when tall pines and green fields

were a thing only to be imagined;

Imagination existed.

In the time before Time,

when love and trust

seemed dormant in the universe,

There existed a Being worthy of love and trust.

In the time before Time,

when all was stillness

and the soft winds of space

blew the atom in random patterns through

nothingness,

The Trustworthy One dreamed.

The Being that existed, imagined.

The Mind of God moved with joy,

and suddenly

it was the Beginning!

~*~

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

And the earth was without form and void.

And darkness was upon the face of the deep.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters…

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished

and all the host of them!”

Genesis 1:1,2 & 2:1

SING ME HOME!

Terah’s body lay in state before the thrones in the Hall of Song.  Washed and dressed, the wounds were left visible as tokens of his sacrifice and honor. He lay on a rectangular block of pure amethyst. The thrones behind him were empty for the King and Queen stood with the assembly that packed the huge hall.  Shoulder to shoulder they stood in silence. The Alari, sized down to miniature, hovered just above the people. Except for Angari. He stood between the thrones; his robes were glistening white, his hair and body golden. His wings were spread wide and his hands were raised, palms upward, to Heaven. He was not the blindingly bright creature revealed when the Great Bells rang in unison, but he was undoubtedly an angel.

Now, he began to sing. His words were unintelligible to the humans, but sounded like bells and music. The King and Queen joined him then, and, slowly, sweeping from front to back, the whole assembly joined the stately chorus. When the music had swelled so that the building vibrated with power, Angari stepped forward, lifted the broken body of Terah, and flew over the heads of the people. Escorted by myriads of Alari, he disappeared through the doors.

Silently the fallowfolk left the Hall until only the King and Queen and the Thomases remained. “Oh, John,” whispered Sarah, “there are no cemeteries. There are no cemeteries on Windfallow! How beautiful!”

THE TEARS OF CALVARY

I felt the hand of God and yet I turned away.

I felt his presence there at break of day.

I heard him call to me, but in my humanity,

I turned away.

And yet he still remained as I walked away;

with his hand outstretched to me.

And though I did not see the tears of Calvary

he wept them once again for me!

I walked through troubled days in restless wandering.

My soul could not find rest in earthly things.

My weary heart cried out for answers to life’s pain.

And I sang the songs of humanity.

Out of my lostness came the cry of Adam’s race.

I sang their cold despair with tears upon my face.

Then, with gentle hands, he drew me back to him.

Praise be to God, for I am home again!

Yes, he still remains as we walk away;

with hands outstretched to you and me.

And though we do not see the tears of Calvary,

he weeps them once again for you and  me!
