The GreatBellof Fellowship
Chapter 7: pp 4 – 6
“There was an unbelievably evil presence in that building. They were plotting something terrible for both our worlds. When I let out that call for help, I was serious!”
“Did you see the angels come?” asked Zach. “Did you see the archangels at the four corners? Talk about awesome!”
“I couldn’t see from where I was,” Angari looked wistful. “All I could see was the fright on the faces of the demons. They took off, yelling for all they were worth and then they were just gone. I knew from the smell of the place they wouldn’t be back. All at once it smelled fresh and clean. You can’t imagine how it smelled while they were there! Come on, there’s a great celebration being planned for the return of the Heroes! Want to ride?”
“No, thanks, Angari. Once on your back was quite enough.” Stilts wriggled his shoulders. “I’m still trying to get the kinks out from the last time.”
The Great Bell of Fellowship has been rescued and carried back to Windfallow by the Alari, Angari. Zach, Stilts and Sparrow have just rejoined Angari at the edge of the Barrier Wood.
TheBellhad been hidden in a silo on an abandoned farm inOklahoma. While Angari sized down and flew to investigate, the others prayed for help. Suddenly the sky was filled with earth angels and the cloud of demons boiling up out of the silo were wiped out by them. As this was happening, Angari, garbed in his royal robes, carried theBellout of their site. He is just now catching up on what happened.
The evil is brought out here in the stench of the demons and their boiling up to fight. Through out the double trilogy there is a distinct disconnect between good and evil. Only one book contains any mention of a crook repenting and breaking away from the demon. That occurs in book four, Carnivore.
What do you see as the value of keeping the protagonists in character throughout this series?
