The brilliance of that reflection, the penetrating power of Christ’s Spirit in our lives is His gift to us. As we allow our hearts to overflow with His goodness, mercy, and love; with the knowledge of who He is and what He is, that goodness and mercy and awesome reality somehow manifests itself to those around us.

In one momentous moment, the humble shepherds were visited by light and music and the most awe inspiring of all beings. Into the blackness around them appeared a blinding light; and in the midst of that light, an angel. Their first thought was fear. So noble a being, so brilliant the light, could not be safe.

Donna Swanson, poet, author, lyricist and artist, lives on the edge of the Great Prairie in Indiana. She has written and published seven books, soon to be eight, and is working on a chapbook trilogy of poetry introduced by Gloria Gaither. She has carved three full-size carousel figures and dozens of miniatures. Swanson writes two columns for her home-town newspaper: one for adults, Donna’s Country Roads, and one for children, Granny’s Place. Bible student and teacher of adult Bible classes for over thirty years, her poetry and prose are deeply rooted in her faith.
